Electronic Critters

Projet lauréat de la bourse annuelle des Pépinières Européennes de création 2021

The installation is a garden of interactive critters created through a network of electronic and sound circuits. Each critter is an artificial reconstruction of insect or bird songs, which are alarmingly decreasing within our territory. To illustrate the permanent and meticulously organized dialogues present in nature, this immersion in the heart of small systems presents an orchestra of machines dependent on each other, forming an electrical ecosystem hypersensitive to interactions with the public.

The "Electronic Critters" installation studies the potential of a technological medium in the service of ecology. It is an exploration of the sensitive networks of nature which nourishes a singular artistic practice: an artificial reconstruction of declining ecosystems. In partnership with different French institutions (Office for Insects and their Environment, the League for the Protection of Birds, the Contemporary Art Center Tignous in Montreuil and the residency program Château Éphémère), this project carefully studies the interdependencies of these species within their ecosystem.

The installation is a garden of interactive critters created through a network of electronic light and sound circuits. Each critter is an artificial reconstruction of insect or bird songs which are alarmingly decreasing within our territory, such as the Cerambyx cerdo, the Oecanthus pellucens, and the Linaria cannabina. Their songs can be modulated by different sensors, forming a meticulous orchestra of machines.

This is an immersion in the heart of the ecosystems kingdom, and it invites the public to manipulate the circuits in order to discover electronics in a more sensitive and playful way. It offers various educational workshops to introduce electronics to children, as well as collaborative performances with the public.
